Safety Stand Down
AGC Houston and the Safety Committee are pleased to announce that the 2016 Safety Stand Down will take place during May 2-13, 2016. Last year was the first time in the event's history that we aligned our program with OSHA - extending the Safety Stand-Down to two weeks and focusing on Fall Protection. AGC Houston estimates that 12,500 construction workers took part in the safety demonstrations in 2015. The phenomenal success was directly attributed to the commitment that our members have to the safety of their field employees.
For the past 13 years, Houston members have been key supporters of the event - leading safety performances at the city, state and national levels.
This will be the second year that general contractors and specialty contractors will conduct the Safety Stand-Down during a two-week period. In 2015, AGC Houston saw dramatic increases in participation throughout our members' josbsites due to the extension of time.
“We wanted to extend the Safety Stand-Down so that more construction workers would be exposed to safety demonstrations across our members’ area jobsites. We also wanted to support OSHA’s National Safety Stand-Down, which focused on fall protection,” stated AGC Houston Director of Safety Services Kim Mason. “This is a great way to expose construction workers to the common hazards of a jobsite, particularly related to falls. Several of our members who are safety consultants volunteered to lead free demonstrations with fall protection gear, ladders, and even test dummies on job sites across the city,” she stated.
